ISAF Sailing World Championships 2007

Taking place from 28 June-13 July in Cascais, the ISAF Worlds will be the pinnacle event for the Olympic Classes in 2007. 75% of all the national places for the Olympic Games will be decided in Cascais, with the remaining 25% left to the respective Class World Championships in 2008.
Recently the Clube Naval de Cascais hosted the ISAF Grade 3 Cascais International Sailing Week on the same waters which will see the World Championship titles decided next year. Amongst the stars turning out to test the waters for next year where Olympic gold medallists Nikos KAKLAMANAKIS (GRE), Gal FRIDMAN (ISR) and Alessandra SENSINI (ITA) and Mateusz KUSZNIEREWICZ (POL), as well as some of Portgual’s Olympic Class stars including Álvaro MARINHO and Miguel NUNES (POR).
How To Qualify
Entry places at the 2007 ISAF Sailing World Championships will be allocated to ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs) in three ways:
- Priority Places - Each national authority is entitled to one entry place in each event, provided that the national authority applies for it before 31 January 2007, and guarantees that the place will be used;
- Additional Places up to a max. of 6 per event - will be allocated based on the finishing positions of competitors from the national authority at the 2005 and 2006 World Championships;
- Commission Places - 20% of the quota for the additional places will be allocated to the qualification commission and entry places not allocated or accepted under the above two ways may be allocated by an ISAF Qualification Commission.

Additional Places
The number of additional places per national authorities for each class has been released by ISAF on 15 Feb 2007.

- Additional Places allocated under the qualification process must be accepted and guaranteed within one month of the place being offered.
- If at any stage of the allocation process the entry quota has been reached, the process to allocate additional places will be stopped.
All competitors in the Worlds shall be a national of the country of the MNA that is entering them. Sailors shall be qualified for the Country Entry Place in national or international qualification races determined by the MNA the dates and results of which shall be known to ISAF.
Commission Places
The ISAF Qualification Commission will start the first allocation of commission places on 16 March 2007. MNA's who wish to be considered for commission places in this first allocation shall submit their application to ISAF by 15 March2007. Any Qualification Places remaining or available after the first allocation may be allocated to applications received after 15 March.
